For anyone on my friends list who plays City of Heroes, Cryptic (the original developer of CoH/CoV) is developing a new game called Champions Online, based on the classic Champions pen & paper RPG (apparently they also bought the publishing rights in order to use the trademark, and will be licensing it out for development on a new edition). It looks interesting and the trailer's got me curious how they'll manage things since they have a lot more free reign and are not tied to anyone's expectations but their own.

Yeah, the community has been a-buzz. There are things in it that we've wanted for a long time, but the game engine just won't support, or at least, nto without a load of work. Plenty of people have made the statement of being annoyed, feeling like Cryptic "used" CoX as a testing ground for this (and, really, why wouldn't you?)

Me, I'm not worries. Going to consoles as it seems to be, it's got a completely different market to compete in and less room to upgrade and expand. Figure there's at least an even chance it'll be huge for 6 months to a year and then die out. Meanwhile, it should get some of the idiot factor to leave CoH. ;)
